Outside there's a box car waiting....
Can I just say I wish paystubs were available sooner?
Ok, it's like this:
Ok, it's like this:
- Pay period ends on a Saturday.
- Management finalizes payroll on Sunday (ideally).
- Paystubs are available to view on Thursday (if you're lucky)
- Payday is on Friday.
Why does it take a week? You'd think in this day and age they would be able to streamline this process so we don't have to wait so many days in between. Now I'm not asking for my money earlier, I just want my paystub so I know what I'm getting paid (well at least to match what I've already calculated) so that I can plan out my budgeting for the next two weeks.
Anyways, that's what's on my mind at the moment (aside from work drama, but I don't want to get into that due to the fact I have no clue who is reading, but let me just say this "gondolas").
Day 22: Put your music on shuffle and post the first ten songs.
Ok, let me preface this with the fact that I currently have 26,825 songs, which is about 66 days worth of music. I have no clue what this shuffle list is going to turn up.
#1- Credits by Justin Hurwitz from the La La Land score.
Can I just once again mention how much I love this score?
#2- Wish You Were Here by Rockabye Baby! from the album Lullaby Renditions of Pink Floyd
Say what you will about these lullaby renditions, I find them kinda soothing and help relax me, much like the would a baby...hmm.
#3- Pencil Full of Lead by Paolo Nutini from the album Sunny Side Up
Ok so the version I have isn't this live version, it's the regular studio version, but I just love any version of this song. Plus it's always fun to watch anyone perform and Paolo Nutini is right up there. I've loved everything he's done.
#4- Princess Leia's Theme by John Williams performed by the London Symphony Orchestra from the Star Wars: A New Hope score.
Once again, while this video is not the same as the recording I have, the emotional effect. I like, thousands of other little girls grew up wanting to be Princess Leia. With phrases like "Somebody has to save our skins" and "I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board." Leia was a princess, but she kicked ass! And as a kid who grew up during a time where Disney Princesses were movie beyond the damsel in distress (The Little Mermaid) to kick ass heroes (Pocahontas and Mulan), Princess Leia paved the way for them. This theme encompasses all that. The passing of the main theme among the brass and woodwind, with the swelling strings underneath, give a sense of femininity yet with strength, and as the entire orchestra swells with that power you are reminded that no matter how hard or tough Leia can seem, she's hurting on the inside (they did just blow up her planet). She is able to be strong and hard when she has to, and delicate and soft when she wants to. But above all, she doesn't let anything stand in her way or tell her what to do, and I think that is something we are all still learning how to do.
With Carrie Fisher's passing, this song resonates with fans more than ever, and it is very hard not to listen to this without shedding a tear. John Williams (especially for all the flack I give him) wrote an amazing theme for both Fisher and Leia, and it suites them both beautifully.

#5- Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones from the album Beggars Banquet
My brother is going to kill me for telling this story, but I love it.
This happened back when he was little, small enough to still have to use a booster seat. We were in the car with my dad, just the three of us. I can't remember where we were going, but the drive must have been long enough for us to enjoy this 6-minute long song. So my dad and I (I in the passenger seat) were singing along, nothing amazing to note, when I hear faintly in the background a little voice singing as well. "Woo Woo... Woo Woo... Woo Woo... Woo Woo". Now I have no idea if this was the first time my brother heard the song, or if it was one of many, but while he hadn't learned the lyrics yet, he did learn the background vocals. I whispered to my dad to listen, and he just broke out into a huge smile and chuckled. I didn't draw attention to my brother, and let him enjoy his moment with the Stones. I actually recently told him that story, told him it's one of my favorite memories. He just replied that he's happy he can't remember it because it's embarrassing and that I sound like our mom telling old stories of our childhood. Regardless, I love it.
#6- Unsent by Alanis Morissette from the album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie
What? I've never understood what I saw in Alanis. I mean she's got some amazing hits, but then everything else in the middle is just..??? Like this song. It's... I don't know? Oh well. I actually purchased this CD, and I still have it, I think.
#7- Back to You by John Mayer from the album Room for Squares
Oh no, this is where I admit that I actually like John Mayer. I ignore all the public scandals and pretty much ignore anything he says, but I do love his music. Especially baby Mayer like on this album when life was much easier for everyone. Plus this song is an easy listen.
#8- Hold Me Tight by The Beatles from the album With The Beatles.
Man, I cannot find this song on youtube that is not a cover or the version from the film Across the Universe. Oh well. Anyways you should already know this song. I mean who doesn't? In the words of John Hannah's character in the 1998 movie Sliding Doors:
"Everybody's born knowing all the Beatles lyrics instinctively. They're passed into the fetus subconsciously along with all the amniotic stuff. Fact, they should be called 'The Fetals'."
#9- Adagio from Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No.8 in G Minor by Arcangelo Corelli from the Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World score.
I actually played this concerto in high school. Many many fond memories of doing so. This is from Corelli's Christmas Concerto. Maybe I should break this out every Christmas. Ooo maybe I should find this concerto on vinyl then break it out every Christmas. I'd love it, my family... not so much.
#10- Here Comes Your Man by the Pixies from the album Death to the Pixies
If my car had a working CD player (or a working AUX port for that matter) there is a 95% chance you'd hear this song blasting. Specially with me singing along. Love this song.
Ok so I cheated at bit. I was not going to waste everyone's time by just posting random songs I've probably never listened to, so I limited my shuffle to only the songs I've listened to in the past year or so and could actually recall hearing.
So I hope you enjoyed this small snippet into my musical tastes, they are so much more vast than was exhibited today.
Now off to bed, I'm exhausted. Today is my friday and I'm zonked out from a rough week at work.
