Laugh Out Loud, but don't LOL
Well did another presentation today, this time to my General Manager and 2 other Leads, and they were all pretty impressed and excited about my proposed changes.
How about that?
It's weird, I'm able to do all of these impressive things, I work hard, and my results show that I'm more than capable of really doing some awesome work. But when it comes down to proud of myself or accepting the recognition for doing a great job or going above and beyond... I just can't. My answer lately has been "I'm just doing my job", which is about half the truth. Half in the sense that yes this is my job, but what I'm actually doing is going beyond what is being asked of me. So I'm a little confused as to what the heckles am I supposed to do with this recognition.
I think I'll celebrate when they systems I'm proposing are in full effect and are working efficiently. Once everyone is on board and this is working without second-guessing, then I'll celebrate whatever one else sees in me.
Alright onto the next prompt!
Day 28: Post five things that make you laugh-out-loud.
This is not an easy topic. Only in the sense that off the top of my head, I can't remember things that make me laugh out loud. It's more of an in the moment type of situation, and without context, these things are probably not even that funny, or worse in retrospect not funny in the slightest.
Ok let me think about this, there should be a few things I could mention.
1) Do you ever see those lists compiled by sites like Buzzfeed about autocorrect fails in text messages? As in someone tries to send a text about a particular subject, but autocorrect changes the context and then it makes no sense. There's just something about the responses that make me laugh every time. I don't come across lists like that every day, so when I do, it's a little treat for me to laugh at.
2) My dog. Like most animal owners, I'm sure I see things in my dog that no one else does, so there are things that she does that make me laugh. I can't pinpoint exactly what she does, but there are moments where I'm just looking at her laughing over the fact that my dog is so wonderfully weird.
3) My two brothers. We're lucky that we all have almost the same sense of humor. It's a weird combination of my Dad's serious yet strange sense of humor and my mom's good-natured classic sense of humor. We're just a weird combination of the two. So when the three of us are together, I can be sure that my head will hurt from all the laughing. It's even better when we're at the movies. I'll be sitting between the two of them, and I get the stereo effect of their jokes, as they pretty much tell the same joke or funny comments around the same time.
4) Episodes of 30 Rock. So I don't like comedies. I'm pretty sure I've already gone over this, but in case I haven't... I do not like situation comedies, I do not find that type of humor at all attractive. BUT there is just something great about old episodes of 30 Rock that I just find ridiculous, and I can't help but laugh at the jokes. This also includes Portlandia, and old episodes of I Love Lucy. Go figure.
5) My self. I can easily laugh at myself at almost any given moment. I am such a goober that I'm surprised I can even function on a daily basis, and if the first section of the post is any indication, I have very little self-esteem when it comes to self-worth. But if you can't laugh at yourself, you are taking yourself way too seriously.
Well that's a quick entry, probably not quite as close to what the prompt wanted, but hey, I wrote some.
