Planning that future in blogging

So I've been spending the last few days trying to figure out how to make this a more professional blog, and seeing what kind of blogs actually make money, turns out they are not personal blogs. Figures right? (I know that they're also not hosted on blogger, that's a given). I'm mostly just trying to scope out what the future of this blog will be.

My plan of attack is as follows:

  1. Actually get into the habit of writing daily. I know that *that* sounds like a given, but seeing how everytime I start this blog I stop 5 days into it and not pick it up again for about 6 months or so. So if I can post something, every day for a few months, really make it into a habit, then I'll know that I'll be able to do this. Hence that 30-day challenge coming up in January. Along with whatever I want to write about, those will be my main focus for the time being.
  2. Get a new computer. While I love my laptop, I need a new computer. The old desktop that my ex gave me is a mess of old hardware and pirated software. Like my laptop, I need a legit desktop. Interestingly enough, this is mostly so that I can play the Sims and a number of other games, but yes I will be using the computer for work. I'm also going to need time to save up the peanuts to buy this sucker. So while I'm doing step 1, I can be saving up. Here's hoping that my tax return and bonus from work is enough to pay for a computer. Another bonus is that I got a pretty sweet humble bundle the other day with a lot of software I can use to make this blog thing a reality.
  3. Finish (or maybe just actually start) my at home lessons in film/filmmaking/film criticism. While I know that I will never (never say never?) make it as a film critic, nor will I ever make enough money to send myself to film school, I can read and watch until my eyes fall out of my head. I already have a pretty good starting point in terms of material to learn from, I just need to get to reading. Once I have a more firm base to stand on with my opinions and knowledge about film, I'll start watching and writing my reactions. If you read my Wonder Woman response earlier in the year, you'll see just what a hot mess that was. It had good starting points, but no form whatsoever. I need to get that down before I can take it on the road.
So these small three steps will take me at least 6 months, or at least that's the beginning timetable I am giving myself. Once we cross those bridges (or at least halfway through) we can then start planning out those next steps. Which is a combination of buying my domain name, paying for hosting, designing a site that is more than this free template, starting that youtube channel (which would be an echo of whatever I end up doing my site about, probably a combination of reviews and reviews), get all my social media ducks in a line, all while still maintaining my semi full-time job in retail.

Holy heckles do I have my work cut out for me. 2018 is going to be an interesting year. At least that's what I'm planning for it to be.
It could also just all ending by January 5th, and we'll be back here next December when I' making the same promises and resolutions for 2019.

Oh boy, here we go!
