"And it's all okay. Yeah, it's okay"
I clearly suck at this "posting once a day" deal, but I think I have an excuse?
Summer classes started on Monday, and my life has been split between school and work. Seriously, my next day off isn't until the 24th. It's safe to say I'm busy. Busy working and busy studying, I'm determined to get the best grades possible, and with one week down and some grades already being recorded, I still have all A's.
Other than that not much else has happened.
OH, I KNOW! Here are some ramblings.
So one of my biggest pet peeves is people thanking me for doing my job. I am a firm believer that a steady paycheck and a "Good job Gabs" is what anyone really needs in order to do their job, or at least that's what I like. I'm not one for constant "thank you's" like I'm doing you a favor for doing my job (that is unless you've asked me to do something outside of my responsibilities and then I do it and you say thanks, that is a different story). I guess this stems from the fact that I either was over recognized as a child for a job well done or maybe it's under-recognized? Regardless, I'm not a fan of the pomp and circumstance.
That said, my managers, this past week gave me a thank you card for going above and beyond in my job in preparation for our anniversary sale.
I'm not going to lie- I cried
I cried while standing right there in the conference room, right in front of the two managers. I cried.
I'm not sure what did it, the fact that they took the time to write such nice words or the fact one called me "Wonder Woman". I'll let you guys decide.*
So I guess in the long run, this is the type of recognition I like, the big gestures (I also got a gift card to Starbucks) and the fact that my hard work is seen, appreciated and recognized. It's not the saying thank you for doing the daily part of your job right (like keeping your workspace clean, it's expected, do it!), but it's the "I know you were completely stressed out to try and make everything perfect and that we appreciate."
I know, it's weird a weird line to be walking, and just part of the weird things that go through my head. And I'm sure there are those out there who are probably wondering why I am complaining, and others who probably get it.
Regardless of any recognition, over recognition, or lack or recognition, I will continue to work hard and to the best of my ability for whatever organization I am a part of: be it my job, school, or yes even this blog (yeah not this blog lol). I don't really know any other way, it's all or nothing.
And on that note, I'll leave you guys with another music video. This time is it Natalie Imbruglia's That Day from her 2000 album White Lilies Island.
I am actually a pretty decent fan. I actually bought her first three albums. Yes, I was *that* moody teenager who listened to mostly imports, you guys had your *Nsync and Blink-182, I had my British pop bands and Oasis.
Anyways, this Australian singer only had one or two hits in the US but was a success everywhere else.
I particularly love this song, the video is kinda wonky, but I do love this song. Every time I listen to it the lyrics mean something else to me, but that driving pulse in the guitar makes you want to just move forward with the music. It's also a great driving song, oh and follow this up with some Arcade Fire, and we're lucky I was never pulled over for speeding when I used to drive to Winston-Salem on a daily basis... that is if I did speed because I totally didn't.
*Totally the Wonder Woman comment.
